Limited Capacity seats available

Play is one of the most important rights of childhood, yet it has been overlooked and undervalued in K12 education. Unstructured play in natural settings is critical for nurturing young imaginations. Play that takes place on asphalt and plastic is denatured. This workshop introduces activities that investigate the nature of play and the design of nature play. Leaders draw from art, architecture, child development, engineering, and ecological design research. Using design thinking, research, process and making, participants experience and leave with free eLearning support to ideate, analyze, diagram and conceptually prototype site-specific kinds of play on their school grounds. Participants are empowered to become nature play initiators, place makers and urban stewards of the built and natural environment in their school communities and on their school grounds.
